Angelique Power

President & Board Member

As President of the Field Foundation, Angelique Power oversees the charitable distribution of $2.5 million annually from assets nearing $60 million. For over seventy-five years the Field Foundation has focused on Chicago’s most vexing issues while supporting its astonishingly creative and entrepreneurial spirit. Field is known as a strategic supporter of innovative programs and organizations, with a primary emphasis on reaching marginalized communities and populations.

Michelle Goldberg

Executive Assistant and Office + Grants Manager

Michelle Goldberg most recently worked in the marketing department at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago where she was dedicated to the goal of attracting a greater audience into the museum to enjoy and engage with art, design, and culture. She earned an M.A. in Modern Art History, Theory & Criticism from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was the art criticism editor for the school’s monthly paper F Newsmagazine. She earned a B.A. in History of Art from the University of Michigan.

Michelle founded Happy Modern where she provides art consultations and encourages people to collect art for their home. Michelle lives with her husband Ron and their children Drew and Jade.

Mark Murray

Vice President, Programs and Administration

As Vice President Mark Murray manages the foundation’s support for community, civic, and cultural organizations. Mark has worked on issues ranging from establishing community schools to programs that support violence prevention. He manages a team of grant makers that are dedicated to working with and in Chicago communities to tackle some of the city’s most pressing needs.

Jo Ann Ross

Receptionist and IT Assistant

As Receptionist and Clerical/IT Assistant, Jo Ann supports all Field staff and visiting grantees, board, and partners. She was born and raised in Chicago.

Heather Smith

Senior Program Officer

As Senior Program Officer, Heather Smith reviews and evaluates grant requests from Chicago area not-for-profit organizations. In addition to conducting site visits with applicants and making funding recommendations, Heather also manages the foundation’s internship program. Prior to Field, Heather served as the Planning Director for the Congress for the New Urbanism and coordinated the Metropolis Plan activities for Chicago Metropolis 2020. She also received an American Planning Association fellowship to advance sustainable development and planning in the United States Senate. Heather is a member of Chicago Women in Philanthropy and the American Planning Association and serves on the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Land Use Committee. Heather is also an adjunct faculty member in DePaul University’s Geography Department.

Tom Czubak

CPA

As an independent CPA, Tom Czubak manages the foundation’s assets and annual audits. He has more than 40 years of experience in public accounting and has been appointed as an expert by both Federal and State of Illinois judges. Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from DePaul University and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Illinois. Tom was born and raised in Chicago.

Tempestt Hazel

Arts Program Officer

Tempestt Hazel is a curator, writer, arts administrator, and founder of Sixty Inches From Center, a Chicago-based arts publication. Over the years she has developed projects, produced programs, and created professional development opportunities for artists and arts organizations through positions with Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), Chicago Artists Coalition, the Chicago Park District, and Arts + Public Life at the University of Chicago. While in these positions she worked on citywide and artist-service projects such as Chicago Artists Resource, Creative Chicago Expo (now Lake FX CreativeCon), Chicago Artists Month, and Chicago Public Media’s Off-Air Series. Her exhibitions and research have been produced with the South Side Community Art Center, Terrain Exhibitions, Contemporary Arts Council, Black Metropolis Research Consortium (BMRC), and University of Chicago, with an upcoming exhibition at the DuSable Museum of African American History and a parallel exhibition at the Smart Museum of Art.

Board

Gloria Castillo

Gloria Castillo is president and CEO of Chicago United, a corporate membership organization that advances multiracial leadership in business to achieve parity in economic opportunity for people of color.

Castillo is a pioneering advocate for workplace diversity with a passion for advancing inclusion, and social and economic justice through the lens of business strategy. Her experience and background have allowed her to effectively collaborate with Chicago United’s corporate members to enhance inclusive talent management practices and develop strategic and dynamic partnerships with minority owned business enterprises. Her work on behalf of underrepresented populations was recognized in 2017 with an honorary Doctorate in Social Justice from Roosevelt University.

Judith S. Block

Judith S. Block (Judy) has spent over 45 years volunteering in the Chicago community. She has followed her passion for the human services, in particular, child welfare. She was a director of the United Way of Chicago for over 25 years and is a past director and board chairman of the Child Welfare League of America. She has been a director and past board chairman of Chicago Child Care Society, the oldest child welfare agency in Illinois. She has also been a Court Appointed Special Advocate in the Juvenile Court (CASA).

Block is a graduate with a BS from the School of Communication (was Speech), from Northwestern University and is a life trustee of the university. She is also a member of the Women’s Board of Northwestern and past board chairman.

Block completed a ten-year term on the Executive Committee of the Chicago Community Trust and was Vice Chairman of the board. She is now a director of The Field Foundation and past board chairman. Block was the first woman chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Field Museum. She is currently a life trustee.

Other involvements include being a member and past president of Know Your Chicago. She is a life director of the Chicago Foundation for Education, member of the Antiquarians of the Art Institute of Chicago and The Old Masters Society of the Art Institute.

Kym Hubbard

Kym Hubbard was the Global Head of Investments for Ernst & Young, Global, and Chief Investment Officer and Treasurer of Ernst & Young,LLP prior to retiring in 2016. Hubbard was recently elected to the boards of PIMCO Funds and State Auto Financial Corporation. She has had significant board experience within Ernst & Young, Gloucester (Ernst & Young’s captive insurance company), and with numerous not-for-profit and civic organizations in the Chicagoland area. Hubbard has served on various board committees including audit, corporate governance, nominating, compensation, and finance/investment.

Hubbard has over 30 years of financial services experience. She has worked in private partnerships, insurance, government, investment banking, capital markets, banking and auditing/public accounting.

Rita Fry

Rita Fry is an accomplished lawyer and consultant who earned her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 1979. Fry joined the Cook County Office of Public Defense in 1980 and served as an assistant public defender until 1986, when she would leave briefly to work for the Chicago Law Department. In 1988 Fry returned to the Public Defender’s Office where she would stay until 2003, when she would open RAF Consulting. RAF Consulting provides expertise in housing, criminal justice issues and government relations and incorporates strategic planning to address community needs and available resources for nonprofit organizations. Fry remains the president of RAF Consulting today.

Lyle Logan

Board Chair

Currently, Lyle Logan is the Board Chair for the Field Foundation of Illinois and Managing Director of the Global Financial Institutions Group. Logan is also Chairman and CEO of The Northern Trust International Banking Corporation. From 2005 – 2009 he was the Managing Director, Institutional Sales and Client Servicing for Northern Trust Global Investments (the asset management arm of Northern Trust Corporation). As Managing Director, he oversaw the growth and development of the NTGI Institutional Sales and Client Servicing business unit. Previously he was Senior Vice President and Head of Chicago Private Banking within Personal Financial Services. Logan joined Northern Trust in April 2000 as a Senior Vice President in Personal Financial Services—Midwest. As part of the management team, he oversaw the business unit’s growth strategies and focused on the development and marketing of Northern Trust’s array of services to current and prospective clients. Logan has been closely involved in a wide range of marketing and product development activities throughout PFS and most recently oversaw the marketing area of the PFS business unit.

George Ranney

George A. Ranney has been a Field Foundation board member since 1978. He has also served on the boards of the MacArthur, Spencer, Arthur M. Brazier and Liberty Prairie Foundations, as well as the board of the University of Chicago, the Conservation Fund, the Metropolitan Planning Council, and the Center for Humans and Nature.

He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1962, and from the University of Chicago Law School in 1966, where he was Editor-in Chief of the Law Review. After working for the Chicago Legal Aid Bureau Ranney became Deputy Director of the Illinois Budget Bureau under Governor Richard Ogilvie, where he was responsible for legislation behind the Budget Bureau, the Illinois Income Tax and the Regional Transportation Authority.

Oliver Nicklin

Oliver Nicklin founded, and is president, of First Analysis. Prior to forming First Analysis, he worked at William Blair & Co. as chief operating officer, director of research, and an investment analyst. He also founded the First Analysis Institute of Integrative Studies, a not-for-profit educational institute, which co-sponsors interdisciplinary seminars and research with universities including Loyola University Chicago, Catholic Theological Union, University of Chicago, and University of Illinois at Chicago.

In addition to serving on many corporate boards, Nicklin has served on the boards of the Field Foundation, the Regenstein Foundation, the Finance Council of the Archdiocese of Chicago, the Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter, the University of Chicago Divinity School’s Visiting Committee, and the Illinois Technology Fund. He earned an M.B.A. from Harvard University and a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Texas.

Jamee Field Kane

Jamee Field Kane is a philanthropist and community volunteer who sits on various boards throughout the city, including the Field Foundation of Illinois. Kane received a B.A. from Middlebury College with a joint major in Economic and Psychology. After completing school, Kane moved to New York where she would spend four years in the investment banking world. Kane returned to Chicago to complete here M.B.A. at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. After graduating she settled down in the city, where she does nonprofit consulting and writes for a local magazine.

Phillip Hummer

Life Director

Philip Hummer served as 2nd Lieutenant for the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Since 1955, Hummer has been with Wayne Hummer Investments in Chicago. The firm became a subsidiary of Wintrust Financial Corporation in 2002. Hummer’s civic activities include being board member and Chairman of the Field Foundation of Illinois, Chicago Historical Society, and the Chicago Crime Commission. Previously Hummer was a member of the board of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and a member of the Commercial Club. He is married to Lynn Hummer, and has three daughters and five grandchildren.

Stephanie Field Harris

Stephanie Field Harris serves as a Trustee of the University of Chicago Medical Center, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Terra foundation for American Art and the Field Foundation of Illinois. She is a member of the Woman’s Board of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Founders’ Board of Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Marshall Field V

Marshall Field V was born on May 13, 1941, in Charlottesville, Virginia, attended St. Albans School in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. He then attended Harvard College, where he was a member of the Lampoon and had a summer internship in the editorial department of the Boston Globe. After graduating from Harvard in 1963 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts, Field worked in New York City for the book publishing firm of Random House and later joined the circulation staff of the New York Herald-Tribune.

Upon the death of his father in 1965, Field entered the family business, Field Enterprises, Inc., in Chicago. In October, 1969, he was elected Publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Daily News, both of which were owned by Field Enterprises. He was 28 years old, the youngest publisher of any major newspaper in the United States. He remained Publisher until 1980. In 1972, Field became Chairman of Field Enterprises, a post he held until the company was dissolved 12 years later. Field is also Chairman and President of The Old Mountain Company, Inc. which manages his private investments.

Wisdom Baty

Wisdom Baty is an artist, parent and educator, interested in reimagining physical space and historical accuracy for the black female body. Her artworks encompass themes centering ancestral memory, autonomy, authorship and black motherhood. Wisdom creates drawings, paintings, text-based artworks and classroom curriculum that explore the complex relationships these paradigms share.
