Announcing our Partnership with Healing Illinois

We are so pleased to share that the Field Foundation of Illinois is partnering with the Illinois Department of Human Services for the relaunch of Healing Illinois, a racial healing initiative.

Healing Illinois was introduced in 2020 to address racial disparities that impact people across the state. The renewed initiative will distribute $4.5 million in grants to nonprofit organizations that facilitate racial healing activities, lead equity work, and engage in meaningful dialogue. Funding will support communities that continue to grapple with complex and long-standing issues–from institutional racism to freedom of speech and expression.

Healing Illinois grant applications will be accepted on a rolling basis now through December 1, 2023, or until funding has been expended. We invite you to join us as we officially kick-off Healing Illinois activities on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 1:00pm to 2:30pm with a virtual conversation moderated by Grace B. Hou, Secretary, Illinois Department of Human Services. Under the theme “Weaving the Truth Together, the event will feature a panel of truth-tellers for a discussion about understanding, hope, and racial healing. To learn more about Healing Illinois funding priorities and the grantmaking process, see details and links below.

In our work with Field Foundation grantee and foundation partners, we see how important healing and reconciliation are to establishing trust and fostering empathy across communities—and how necessary trust and empathy are to creating the conditions that will advance racial and social justice. We look forward to being part of Healing Illinois and working with its grantees to improve daily life in communities across Illinois.
