Ling Young

Youth Organizer,

Southside Together Organizing for Power

Ling Young joined Southside Together Organizing for Power (STOP) as a high school student at Hyde Park Academy when she was part of school’s social justice club. She went on to co-facilitate summer youth training and, in 2020, became STOP’s youth organizer.

In this role, Ling has steered a shift toward more community-led organizing. She also supports the leadership development of her young peers, spending time to share her organizing skills and knowledge with others, while building meaningful relationships based on care and solidarity. She has the ability to create safe, restorative space for teens and other young adults to organize around issues that impact them most.

In addition to her role as a youth organizer, Ling ran the phone banking operation for 20th Ward Alderwoman, Jeanette B. Taylor during her first election campaign. Ling’s network of community building spans the neighborhoods of Bronzeville, Hyde Park, South Shore, Back of the Yards, New City, Auburn Gresham, Greater Grand Crossing, Englewood, and Roseland. She brings wisdom, energy, and power to STOP and her South Side community.
