Michelle Manson

Programs Fellow

Michelle Manson is a Programs Fellow for the Field Foundation, supporting Field’s grantmaking across all program areas.

As a queer violist, Michelle has dedicated their career thus far to giving back to her community and creating inclusive spaces within the music industry, while innovating viola technique and providing musical performances around the world.

Michelle recently graduated magna cum laude from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Music and will be pursuing a master’s degree in Humanities this fall at the University of Chicago.

During their undergraduate education, Michelle began hosting events for musicians’ wellness, including a live meditation and music series and communal events for Black queers and musicians. Writings of hers are centered around viola performance techniques and have been published in both the Journal for the American Viola Society and Strings magazine’s online platform. Through her affiliation with the Matt Jones Orchestra, she has had the opportunity to explore music of different genres, performing alongside Kirk Franklin, Kanye West, NoName, and many others.
