Patrick Gallagher Landes is the Development and Communications Manage for the Garfield Park Community Council, working to raise money to create better housing and access to food on Chicago’s West Side.

What did you learn from your experience as a Field Fellow? I think the most valuable thing was familiarizing myself with the landscape of social issues across the city.

By learning more about the organizations that are improving Chicago’s neighborhoods, I learned about the issues that a wide array of Chicagoans are organizing to address.

Is there a fond memory you recall from your fellowship? I really enjoyed working with previous Leaders for a New Chicago to choose the next cohort.

What is your advice for future Field Fellows? I think future fellows should really take their time to develop relationships with the organizations who are applying for grants, particularly in areas that resonate with the fellows. It’s a great opportunity to expand your professional circle.
