How to Apply

The Field Foundation’s grantmaking and award programs support community power building across Chicago, amplifying resident voices and catalyzing transformative change. We are intentional about investing and organizing capital, working alongside our grant partners to help advance resident-set agendas in our key program areas. We focus primarily on Chicago’s South and West Sides, where our analysis indicates areas of greatest need. We make grants and awards in three ways as described below.

A Road Together (ART)

Through our ART partnership with the MacArthur Foundation, we provide multi-year general operating funding for small and mid-sized arts and culture organizations based in Chicago. We accept ART grant applications from mid-April through mid-May. Grants are awarded in the fall. Learn more on our ART page.

Community Investments

We do not have an open call for Community Investments grant applications. We are using an invitation-based and relationship-driven process. During the four-year pilot of this portfolio, our funding will support a small number of partners — reflecting our commitment to building deeper, sustained relationships.

Leaders for a New Chicago

Our collaboration with the MacArthur Foundation recognizes leaders who are redefining civic leadership and reimagining our city’s future. Our nomination portal opens in mid-February and closes in mid-March. We announce the Leaders for a New Chicago in the summer. Learn more on our Leaders for a New Chicago page.
