Leaders for a New Chicago
Our collaboration with the MacArthur Foundation recognizes leaders who are redefining civic leadership and reimagining our city’s future.

The Leaders for a New Chicago Award is a $50,000 no-strings-attached award that celebrates community-based, grassroots leaders who are bringing new voices, creativity, and innovation into the decisions and structures that shape Chicago.
In addition to $50,000 in unrestricted funding — no spending guidelines, no reporting requirements — the leaders receive $25,000 general operating grants for their affiliated nonprofits. Since the Leaders for a New Chicago Award launched in 2019, the Field and MacArthur Foundations have committed $4.45 million to support 81 awardees and their organizations.
This award reflects our shared belief in the important work of community leaders and in ensuring they have the necessary resources to continue driving transformative change across our city. Meet the 2026 Leaders for a New Chicago and the previous cohorts below.
